Topological Hall effect has been observed under 100 K. Néel-type skyrmion lattice and the stripe-like magnetic domain structures are induced at the interface. The skyrmion size is estimated to be 150 nm at 94 K and 80 nm at 198 K. This interfacial coupling induced Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) is calculated from the domain width and has a large energy of 1.0 mJm-2.

Observed skyrmion lattice observed from the WTe2/Fe3GeTe2 interface. Micro-simulation indicates a finite penetration of the interfacial DMI.

This is the first and direct observation of skyrmions in vdW heterostructures, which can help promote 2D materials for ultra-compact spintronic devices.
